At Saint Catherine’s we are doing everything we can to keep our patients, families, staff , volunteers and supporters safe at this difficult time.
Our key clinical services are still running, which means that patients are still being cared for in the hospice and at home.
However, in line with Government guidance and with safety paramount, we have taken the decision to reduce some face-to-face services and restrict visitors on site.
Every decision being made is in the best interests of our patients, families, volunteers and staff.
We need your continued support and help more than ever as we continue to pay and support all our members of staff – we appreciate every donation, every message and every offer of support.

Light up a Life baubles go on display in our charity shops

December 4th 2020

Saint Catherine’s Christmas Light up a Life appeal is well under way – with heartfelt messages of love and remembrance now on display in the charity’s 11 shops.

At this time of year, Saint Catherine’s would usually hold a number of Light up a Life services across the local area, but with this not possible due to COVID-19 restrictions, organisers came up with an alternative way of bringing supporters together in remembrance during the festive season.

Susan Stephenson, communications and marketing manager, said: “This year, instead of displaying and blessing baubles at our services, we have asked supporters to write a special message or dedication on our Light up a Life baubles to be displayed in our charity shop windows.

“This is a way of bringing everyone together in remembrance and creating poignant and meaningful displays on the run-up to Christmas. The response so far has been wonderful – and there is still time to take part if people would like to get involved.”

Light up a Life packs, each containing a set of two cardboard baubles, are available from all 11 Saint Catherine’s shops. These are: Falsgrave (Scarborough), Ramshill (Scarborough), Victoria Road (Scarborough), Whitby, Filey, Hunmanby, Malton, Pickering, Helmsley, Bridlington and Driffield – with full shop details at www.saintcatherines.org.uk/how-you-can-help-us/shops/

Supporters can write a dedication on each bauble, keeping one to display at home and returning one to Saint Catherine’s, to be displayed in their local shop window. Please write the name of your nearest Saint Catherine’s shop on the bottom of your bauble.

Saint Catherine’s shops are open from Wednesday to Saturday, 10.30am to 3.30pm (closing for 45 minutes at lunchtime for cleaning). All shops have undergone changes and rigorous checks to ensure they are COVID-safe.

The Light up a Life appeal aims to raise much-needed funds to ensure that no family is left without support at the time when they need it the most.

Your donation will make a real difference – for example:

  • £20 could pay for an in-patient’s meals and refreshments for Christmas Day.
  • £50 could pay for a series of therapy sessions for a patient.
  • £200 could pay for our Hospice at Home team to visit four patients in their homes.
  • £500 could pay for a stay in the hospice over Christmas.

If you would like to make a donation as part of this year’s Light up a Life Appeal, please go to www.justgiving.com/campaign/light-up-a-life-2020 or call (01723) 378406.

Cheques payable to Saint Catherine’s Hospice can be posted to Saint Catherine’s Hospice, Light up a Life Appeal, Fundraising Department, Throxenby Lane, Scarborough, YO12 5RE. Please write your name and address on the reverse. Thank you so much for your support.
