Meet the Hospice at Home Team
Meet Hospice at Home
Tell us what a typical day looks like in your team?
We are available to patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our day starts with handover from the night shift at 8.30am. A staff nurse will delegate work to the rest of the team. Staff will go out on visits, which usually includes a patient’s personal care and ongoing assessment or it may be new referral assessments and liaising with other community based staff.
What makes your department special in terms of patient care?
We have the privilege of visiting people in their own homes and can give them a choice of where they want to be cared for. We can respond quickly to phone calls from distressed families at any time of the day or night. We are there to care for someone at the most vulnerable time of their lives and making that journey a comfortable one is something very special.
Does anyone in your department have any secret talents?
Yes! One member of the team is a 2nd Dan in Judo and 1st Dan in Taekwondo so don’t mess with her! One member of the team has auditioned for X factor. One of the team has 8 children-all her own! One member of the team has appeared on Coronation Street.
