International Nurses Day- Meet Cherry
Saturday 12th May is International Nurses Day.
We wanted to take the opportunity to celebrate the wonderful team of nurses within our organisation.
At Saint Catherine's there are over 100 Nurses and Health Care Assistants that work across the In-Patient Unit and within the community with our Hospice at Home team, Care Homes team and our Specialist Palliative Care Nurses.
Meet Cherry Pye
Cherry is a Bank Staff Nurse on the In-Patient Unit. Cherry has worked with us at Saint Catherine’s for 6 months now.
Before joining Saint Catherine’s Cherry worked as Specialist Oncology Nurse at Queen Elizabeth Foundation Trust in Kings Lynn and then went on to work for 15 years at Scarborough Hospital as Manager of the Chemotherapy department.
Cherry decided to become a nurse after losing her son in 1984. He was cared for for 5 years at Great Ormond Street Hospital. The nurses that looked after her son inspired Cherry to become a nurse and she has now been in nursing for 32 years.
‘‘It is lovely to work at Saint Catherine’s. I enjoy that I am seeing some of my patients from my previous job when they come in for symptom control. Working at Saint Catherine’s is a much more relaxed environment to be. I enjoy the holistic approach to caring for patients, friends, families and even pets!’
