Sunflower Memories Appeal 2019

August 14th 2019

24th July 2019 –

Saint Catherine’s has launched its Sunflower Memories Appeal 2019 and is inviting supporters – old and new – to take part.

The appeal takes place each year to help raise funds for patient care – and every penny counts as it costs £5.5 million to provide our services, free of charge, to patients and their families.

This year we have commissioned a beautiful handmade iron sunflower, specially created by the British Ironwork Centre, and we are delighted that these sunflowers have been sponsored by St Cecilia’s Care Group.

Mike Padgham, managing director at Saint Cecilia’s Care Group, said: “Saint Cecilia’s is very proud to support the hospice in its Sunflower Memories Appeal and hopes that all of Saint Catherine’s supporters will join in this very special effort to raise funds for a very special cause.

“As a provider of care for older and vulnerable adults, we work very closely with Saint Catherine’s and have the greatest respect and admiration for the wonderful work it does in providing palliative care in this area.”

The sunflower is a symbol of hope and remembrance for hospices. Saint Catherine’s is inviting people to create their own tribute in memory of a loved one. By giving a suggested minimum donation of £30, you can own one of our handmade sunflowers to treasure at home, and this donation could pay for a nurse to provide three hours of care and emotional support to a patient in their own home.

We will be creating displays of the sunflowers at both our hospice site and St Cecilia’s Nursing Home in Queen Margaret’s Road from late August. These will be on show until our Sunrise Walk on Sunday September 22, the flowers will stand bright welcoming our supporters back from their walk as the sun rises over Scarborough.

Your donation, of whatever amount you choose, will make a real difference to the lives of patients, their families and friends.
