We are seeing a highly organised, accurate and methodical individual to provide a comprehensive reception and administration service to patients, visitors and staff on our In-Patient Unit (IPU).  High quality customer care is of primary importance in this role. The post holder will work alongside a multi-professional team that provides palliative care to patients.

Salary Range: Hospice pay band scale 3.1 £20,333.06

Hours: 1 full-time position 37.5 hrs p/w OR 2 part-time positions working Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday

with flexibility to work other days if required.

Duration of Contract: Permanent

Job Purpose

As Ward Clerk you will help ensure the smooth and safe management of our patient care by taking a lead role in providing a confidential and precise administration and clerical role, including maintaining accurate patient notes and data.  You will be the first point of contact in welcoming and answering patient/visitor queries to the in-patient unit and will work at all times under the direction of the Team Leader/Senior Nurse.

Essential Criteria

  • Excellent standard of written and oral English and a good level of general education.
  • Highly organised administrator with the ability to manage your time and prioritise your own workload effectively.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with distressed patients and their families and colleagues.
  • Excellent IT skills, competent in using a number of software packages: Excel, Word, Excel, Outlook.
  • Understanding of a commitment to confidentiality.

Desirable Criteria

  • NVQ Level 2 in Administration, or equivalent qualification.
  • Experience of working in a clinical environment and/or an understanding of electronic record systems would be beneficial.
  • Experience of working within a team.
  • Experience of dealing with members of the public.
  • Experience of remaining calm whilst under pressure.
