Our Education Centre is a modern spacious building that offers facilities for hire as well as running courses throughout the year on palliative care.

Education Programme

Saint Catherine’s education programme consists of different courses and educational sessions running throughout the year. You can find out more about planned courses and sessions taking place over the coming year below.

Upcoming Courses and Sessions

Advanced Communications Skills – This 2-day interactive workshop is aimed at senior clinicians who are communicating with patients with advanced progressive illness in challenging or complex situations. Introduction to Palliative Care – Introduction to palliative care as a speciality and to what is available in the locality. For new health and care staff or those new to the area.

16th April 2024 – 9.30am – 4.30pm

Non-Medical Prescribing – Updates on prescribing in palliative care for qualified and aspiring Non-Medical Prescribers. Please note there is a charge of £65 per delegate for this day.

Palliative Care Emergencies Study Day – Learn how to recognise and manage palliative care emergencies, including MSCC, bowel obstruction and hypercalcaemia

9th September 2024 – 9.30am – 4.30pm

Palliative Care for Care Homes / Domiciliary Care Staff – One day study day facilitated by the palliative care team at Saint Catherine’s Hospice. Suitable for all staff working in residential or domiciliary settings. Concurrent sessions for registered nurses and care assistants.

8th July 2024 – 9.30am – 4.30pm

Palliative Care (Professionals) Forum – Quarterly forum for all working in palliative care in the locality. To discuss issues in the area, informal teaching and networking.

Syringe Driver Training  – A MS Teams based curriculum for all Registered Nurses in North Yorkshire led by Saint Catherine’s Hospice providing what you need in preparation for competence. Other professionals may find attendance helpful to understand the principles of syringe driver use and medication decision making. You must attend both session one and two in order to receive a certificate.

Verification of Expected Adult Death Online Training – An MS Teams based curriculum designed to prepare experienced RNs to undertake competency in VOEAD in their own organisation.

Please note we expect attendees to be working in organisations that have policies and staff competencies for VOEAD. We are happy to assist your organisation to develop these if needed, prior to staff being accepted for training.

Meeting Room Hire

Our light and spacious Education Centre has facilities can be hired out at any time of day for groups of up to 40 people.

We have one large lecture room and two break out seminar rooms, all equipped with display screens, wi-fi, flip charts, white boards, and loop system. The large lecture room is available for £60 for a half day and £120 for a full day. Our two breakout rooms are priced at £30 for a half day and £60 for a full day.

These prices are all inclusive of tea and coffee for the duration of your hire. Catering can also be provided by our on-site kitchen.
