Saint Catherine’s Hospice has hailed its annual Christmas tree recycling project as a ‘tree-mendous’ success.

The appeal, which has been running for the past two years, raised £1,950 which will all go towards looking after patients and their loved ones. The scheme involves members of the public giving a donation for the collection and recycling of their real Christmas trees. A team of hospice staff and volunteers made this happen and are looking forward to running the scheme again next Christmas.

Susan Stephenson, fundraising operations coordinator, said:

“This was a real team effort and those involved worked tirelessly with smiles and enthusiasm, despite the cold and icy weather.

“A big thank you goes to Diane and Alan from our hospice mobile pods team; Andy and Finlay from Medequip, who kindly provided a van and volunteered their time; Callum from Bespoke Tree Care for the chipping; Scalby Manor for the use of their grounds; and Clyde from Barrowcliff Allotments for collecting the chippings. We were also delighted to take some of the trees to Whitby Wildlife Sanctuary as part of enrichment for the animals.”

Andy Marshall, from Medequip, said:

“It was wonderful. I enjoyed the opportunity for Medequip to support Saint Catherine’s, and I look forward to working together on community engagement in the future.”
