In recognition of our commitment to improving care for Freemasons, their spouses and families in North and East Yorkshire.

Saint Catherine’s Becomes First UK Hospice to Launch Masonic Aware Initiative

Saint Catherine’s Hospice has made history by becoming the first hospice in the UK to achieve Masonic Aware status, reinforcing its commitment to supporting the community. This milestone strengthens the hospice’s role in providing essential assistance to Freemasons and their families during times of need.

The Masonic Aware initiative is designed to reconnect Freemasons, past and present, and their families with practical support and companionship during periods of illness or vulnerability. By addressing isolation and fostering meaningful connections, the initiative enhances the well-being of those in need.

Launch Event

The initiative was officially launched at Saint Catherine’s in March 2025, with the support of the Provincial Grand Master, RW.Bro Dr. David Chambers. A commemorative plaque, funded by Leopold Lodge and De Brus Lodge, was unveiled by Sir David Wootton, 2nd Grand Principal. The event was attended by approximately 60 guests, including local Lodge members and key partners.

The Provincial Grand Master remarked: “This initiative is an invaluable addition to our community outreach. Freemasonry has long supported hospices, and this effort underscores that our contribution extends beyond financial support. Volunteers play a crucial role in events and daily operations, making our assistance even more impactful.”
