At Saint Catherine’s we are doing everything we can to keep our patients, families, staff , volunteers and supporters safe at this difficult time.
Our key clinical services are still running, which means that patients are still being cared for in the hospice and at home.
However, in line with Government guidance and with safety paramount, we have taken the decision to reduce some face-to-face services and restrict visitors on site.
Every decision being made is in the best interests of our patients, families, volunteers and staff.

Saint Catherine’s provides care to over 3,000 individuals annually, each with access to a wide range of services, all of which are provided to patients free of charge.

Volunteers are vital to the success of Saint Catherine’s. They support delivery of almost all services offered by the Hospice, from the Board of Trustees that provide our governing body, to a wide range of roles across Clinical Support, Income Generation and Operational Support.
At Saint Catherine's we understand that today’s volunteer wants flexibility so that they can fit their time volunteering around other commitments – such as work, caring for parents, children and grandchildren, and leisure time. Some volunteers may be experiencing a longer period of retirement and have valuable skills to offer the voluntary sector, whilst others face the reverse - working longer or going back into work after retirement. For others, volunteering can be an important “stop-gap” between full time employment, as well as an opportunity to gain new skills.

Volunteer Bereavement Counsellor

Part-time (to have a small adult client caseload)

Saint Catherine’s Hospice is seeking applications from suitably qualified counsellors to fill several volunteer vacancies in its Bereavement Support Service. This will be an excellent opportunity for individuals keen to use their training and interest in serving the community in the field of hospice/palliative care.

The role will involve working with bereaved family members of deceased patients of Saint Catherine’s mainly at our on-site facilities, in the community through home visits, and at sites in Whitby and Ryedale.

Suitable applicants will be provided with free in-service training opportunities (in addition to training mandatory for all staff at Saint Catherine’s), free professional supervision, and reimbursement for use of vehicle expenses.

The suitable applicant will be able to volunteer flexible hours in order to accommodate patients and clients availability and home visits. This flexibility will also make it possible for a suitable applicant outside Scarborough (requiring a commute) to apply.
