When Ben Richardson joined Saint Catherine’s Hospice in June this year as a Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) in Palliative Care,
he described it as his “dream job.” Having lived and worked in the local area all his life, Ben has always known about the incredible care the hospice provides to patients and families facing life-limiting illnesses. Now, he’s proud to be part of the team delivering that same care.

In September 2025, Ben will take the next big step in his career journey by beginning a three-year, part-time Master’s Degree in Advanced Clinical Practice at Leeds Beckett University. Alongside his studies and training, Ben is also taking on a personal challenge very close to his heart –
running the Great North Run for the sixth time.

Ben said:

“I feel privileged to now be part of the Saint Catherine’s team. Every day I see the difference
we make to patients and their families – not just within the hospice, but across the 1,600 square
miles of North and East Yorkshire that we cover. Most of our services are provided free of charge,
so it’s vital that we raise the funds needed to continue this work. That’s why I’m taking on the
Great North Run again this year – to help raise money towards the £6.2 million it costs each year
to provide our care.”

Ben’s dedication to his patients, his studies, and his fundraising is a true reflection of the hospice spirit. We’re proud to support him as he balances his new role, his academic journey, and his sixth Great North Run.
