Three Men and a Tent take on ‘El Scorchio’ in aid of Saint Catherine’s

Nick and Marc’s Fundraiser

An incredible fundraising adventure is on the horizon as Three Men and a Tent (TMAAT) prepare to take on their biggest challenge yet — cycling from London to Seville in support of Saint Catherine’s. From 15th May, Nick and Marc, alongside their trusty tent ‘Mutha Hubba’, will set off on an epic journey covering hundreds of miles across Europe. Their route will take them via Santander, Santiago de Compostela, Porto and Lisbon before reaching their final destination in Seville.

Cycling in Memory

This year’s challenge is especially meaningful, as the team are cycling in memory of John Capstick. John received care from Saint Catherine’s towards the end of his life, and his family have shared just how much that support meant to them during an incredibly difficult time.

John’s daughter Alice recalls the moment her father arrived at the hospice:

“I arrived at Saint Catherine’s to be shown to his room, fearing the worst. But there was my Dad, so close to death but sitting up in a bed covered with cosy, beautiful blankets, with my Mum in an armchair close by, the sun shining through patio windows to a lovely garden. My Dad — enjoying a cup of tea in a ‘proper china mug’ whilst care staff checked in, as if it were the most normal day ever. And to me, that moment epitomised everything that Saint Catherine’s came to represent – dignity; humanity; compassion; excellence; attention to detail; care. All when it was needed the most.”

John’s wife Jennie also reflected on the difference the hospice made:

“Following ten days of intense trauma… the move to Saint Catherine’s Hospice provided a heavenly blessing. The loving care of every member of the team, the knowledgeable ability of staff to adjust the drugs needed for palliative care to make a loved one’s final days bearable and, in some cases, to stabilise the condition temporarily was amazing. Their policy of support for each family member never failed to impress.”

For John’s family, the hospice provided not only expert care, but comfort, dignity and support at a time when it mattered most.

About the Challenge

Three Men and a Tent began as a spontaneous idea between friends to see how far they could cycle in a day, camp overnight, and return home. What started as a fun challenge has since grown into a series of incredible adventures, all in aid of charity. Their aim has always been simple: to raise as much money as possible while enjoying the journey, friendship and shared experience of travelling under their own steam.

This year’s ‘El Scorchio’ challenge is set to be their toughest yet.

Supporting Hospice Care

The team are aiming to raise £2,500 for Saint Catherine’s, helping to support the vital care provided to patients and families across the local community. It costs over £6 million each year to run the hospice, with only around 30% funded by the NHS. Fundraising efforts like this make a huge difference, helping to ensure care can continue to be provided free of charge to those who need it.
