Sunrise Walk Returns

Walking Together in Memory

One of Saint Catherine’s most treasured fundraising events is returning to the Scarborough seafront this September, giving walkers the chance to welcome the sunrise while raising vital funds for patient care.

The Saint Catherine’s Sunrise Walk will take place on Sunday 27 September, marking the 18th year of this special event. Starting at the Sea Life Centre from 6am, walkers will follow a six-mile route along Scarborough’s seafront, taking in views across the bays as the sun comes up. The route heads towards the Spa Complex before returning to the Sea Life Centre.

But the Sunrise Walk is about much more than the miles. Over the years, it has become a meaningful opportunity for people to come together to remember loved ones, spend time with family and friends, take on a personal challenge and show their support for Saint Catherine’s. And after 18 years, the event has certainly made its mark. The Sunrise Walk has raised well over half a million pounds over the years, helping Saint Catherine’s provide expert care and support for patients and families across North and East Yorkshire.

Jodi Hatton, event organiser, said:

“We are really looking forward to this year’s Sunrise Walk. It is such a special, meaningful event and is a real highlight in our fundraising calendar. Whether you want to remember a loved one, take part as a team challenge, or simply get your walking boots on for a good cause, there are so many reasons to take part – and you will be helping to make a real difference to our patients and their families.”

A Sunrise Walk tradition

One of the event’s longest-standing supporters will once again be there to welcome walkers along the route. The Harbour Bar in Sandside has supported the Sunrise Walk since the very first event and will be returning this year to provide free refreshments. Walkers can stop off at the halfway point for a well-earned treat before continuing along the seafront.

Saint Catherine’s is also delighted to have B Bernard & Sons Funeral Directors supporting the Sunrise Walk as sponsors once again this year.

Walk your way

Whether you’re walking in memory of someone special, getting together with friends and family, taking on a team challenge or simply looking for a meaningful way to support Saint Catherine’s, everyone is welcome. Adult registration is £15, while children aged 5–16 can take part for £5. Under 5s can join for free. Adult tickets include a Sunrise Walk beanie, and all participants can enjoy refreshments from The Harbour Bar.

The event isn’t a race, so there’s no pressure to reach the finish line in a certain time. It’s about taking in the sunrise, enjoying the route and making every step count.
